Nikolaus Family History First Immigration Joseph Frank Nikolaus first came to America in 1901 followed by Theresa Schlute Nikolaus in 1902. Theresa ran a boarding house in Milwaukee while Joseph worked the coal docks. While in Milwaukee, Theresa (Peggy) and Joseph G. were born. Theresa then emigrated to Paleshnik, Croatia with her two children around 1906/07 to homestead a farm there. She was joined by Joseph one year later. While in Croatia, Ferdinand (Fritz) was born. Second Immigration Joseph returned in Feb 2, 1909 aboard the SS St. Louis. Theresa Nikolaus, now with 3 children, returned to the U.S. aboard the RMS Mauritania on August 25, 1910. The family spent the next year in Union Grove Wisconsin working for a farmer. This is where Jacob was born. In 1912/13 the family moved to the Ripon area of Wisconsin and worked as sharecroppers in the sugar beet fields. Around 1916 the family rented a farm in the Metomen Township for shares. Then in 1918/19 they moved 3 miles down the road to the Springvale Township (Brandon) until 1945. There is a St. Mary's Church 2 miles from Springvale farm which they might have attended.

Buried on 24 Feb 1945 in Millwaukee WI. Occupation: Farmer. In Feb 1899 when Joseph Frank was 23, he married Theresa E. Schlute, daughter of Joseph Schlute. Born on 1 May 1876 in Austria. 4. Joseph Gustave Nikolaus. Born on 2 Oct 1904. Joseph Gustave died in Milwaukee, WI on 5 Feb 1954, he was 49. On 11 May 1929 when Joseph Gustave was 24, he married Theresa Marie Rauscher, daughter of Jacob Rauscher & Maria H. Crocker, in Milwaukee, WI. Born on 30 Sep 1909.
